Laretta Weaver

Laretta WeaverLaretta Weaver is an enrolled citizen of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma who resides in the MOWA Choctaw community north of Mobile, Alabama. A tireless advocate of promoting Native American language and culture, she volunteered for many years with Calcedeaver Elementary School helping MOWA Choctaw students to learn about their cultural heritage and organizing a Choctaw dance team there. Laretta is considered by many to be the finest Southeastern Indian bead smith in Alabama. Knowing virtually every method of beading, she often incorporates her beadwork with cast sterling silver to make one of a kind jewelry.
